Klaipeda - follow the multicultural footprints

Klaipeda is the oldest city and also the only port in Lithuania. Situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea with its rich history, traditions, cultural life and unique architecture, Klaipeda has become an outstanding tourism attraction centre. The part of Klaipeda, so called Curonian Spit, which amazes visitors with its majestic dunes, has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Right at the sea gate the Lithuanian Maritime Museum-Aquarium is situated.
The city of Klaipeda is also called the capital of culture in Western Lithuania, having very old marine traditions. Annually, starting from 1934, during the last weekend of July the Sea Festival is celebrated. It is one of the biggest and the most impressive festivals in Lithuania and attracts thousands of visitors. During the Sea Festival and Baltic Sail event Klaipeda welcomes all kinds of traditional sailing ships which provide an exclusive location for special individual or group sailing voyages as well as decorating the city. Right at the sea gate one finds the Martime Museum - Aquarium. It is situated in the 18th century fortress and boasts being one of the most visited museums in Lithuania.
